My names Mike Wazouski, for a living I guess you could say I’m a criminal. Technically,  I’m half criminal half making a living. Before this whole “prohibition era” I was legally making moonshine and making a so so amount of money selling to bars. Now that the prohibition law has happened not too many people are willing to risk all they have to make illegal moonshine. I guess that’s where my whole criminal citizen background comes in. Now that no one is making it, people are paying more for me too. Instead of making $1.25 per barrell I am now bringing in $3.00 a barrell. I have a beautiful wife named Celia and an amazing daughter named Boo.  We used to be kinda iffy about money but not poor luckily. Now with me moon shining illegally I can provide everything for my family, which in my opinion is the best feeling in the world.

A normal day in the moon shining business is pretty simple. You have to make sure that you have a small hide away brewery, because if you get caught you’re screwed. My brewery is down in the woods behind my house, in a way it’s kinda like a fox hole. It’s big enough for me to get down there too do what needs to be done. A plus side of having your brewery underground is that it’s cold enough down there to let it cool, so this way you don’t have to bring it out. How most shiners get caught is by bringing the barrels outside so that they can cool.  I on the hand am a smart man and thought of this ahead! I usually brew about five barrels a week, after that I sell them to the local “hide away taverns”. Most bars in this area have been shut down so the owners have wood covering the windows and it all shut down. Secretly in the inside down in the basement there is still a tavern. Most men go there to help “move stuff” out of the tavern but in reality they are getting their drink on. Even though I know this is wrong of me to do I can’t help but love the way the adrenaline makes me feel and love the happiness the money brings to my family. A shocking surprise to my friends that do so know about my illegal actions is that I don’t drink. I’ve seen what alcohol can do to a man and the effects on the families. My good friend James P. Sullivan, or as most people call him Sully had a drinking problem. He has two sons and a wife. He was working building houses and fixing the town up doing so well for his family. He started drinking all the time and staying out late with all his buddies. He would leave early in the morning and not show up until everyone was asleep. When he would come home he would wake up his whole family and scream to the top of his lungs about everything. His family didn’t want him coming home at all and his wife didn’t want to be married. Alcohol destroyed his family and him, luckily now Sully is getting help and becoming the man he once was. I could never imagine betraying my family like that.

Yesterday the scariest thing happened to me, I was getting ready to go out to the woods. When I saw something moving, it was the officers out looking for possible alcohol smugglers. I went back into the house praying that they wouldn’t find where my brewery is. Hours had past when the night approached and I saw their come out of the woods. I waited to make sure they were all completely gone and went to check on my things. Luckily, I hide it so well that sometimes I have a hard time finding it. That was the closest call I’ve ever had….I don’t know whether or not I should stop. Keep providing a great life for my family and enjoying my life or find a job that pays little and suffer….
